IP Ratings (“Ingress Protection”) Ingress: The unwanted introduction of water, foreign bodies, contaminants, etc.
IP ratings are used to define levels of sealing effectiveness of products against the intrusion of foreign bodies and moisture. The numbers that follow IP each have a specific meaning. The first number indicates the degree of ingress protection from foreign bodies. The second number indicates the level of protection from moisture.
